The Allure of Pizza Lounge

The smell was unique, not bad...unique. It's an aged establishment in a desolate, but highly under-appreciated part of town,Exposition Park.

He was leaning over the bar, schmoozing and snickering with two or three ornately-tattooed waitresses.  Co-owner Dave Habony was enthusiastic, hospitable, and just... cool. He and best friend, Mike Leibermann, own Pizza Lounge, a deep dish pizza spot with a Bohemian twist.  His welcome was warm. He waved us in, sat us down, one minute standing over us; the next seated beside us, describing his crazy pizza concoctions. Conformist? Not so much. Pizza with shrimp, pickles, and capers?  This guy is awesome!

We selected The Sauerkrauter (sauerkraut, mushrooms, sausage) & Sofa King (meat lovers + banana and green peppers). Both were delicious for entirely different reasons.  I'll be back for riskier experimentation, but for now, I was throughly satisfied. This place has charm and skill.
