Happy Accidents

It happened as most good things do: by accident. The evening began in a typical fashion. My roommate Emily and I were having our nightly conversation about what to have for dinner: eat in (once again employing our microwave), or go out, which always raised the question of where. On this particular night, the conversation happened to be taking place while driving home. The discussion about our food options went in circles. Next thing we knew, we found ourselves a little too far south on I-35. Exiting at Inwood Road was our only option for getting back. In doing so, our bearings were restored and our minds once again turned to food. We were hungry and within two minutes we found ourselves in the drive-thru of Goghee to Go.

In reading over the menu, we weren't quite sure how to make a decision about fusion fare that combines Korean BBQ with Mexican street food. Which Goghee (meat) should we choose? How should we have it prepared? What extras would pair well with our order? Luckily for us, the tiny girl working behind the counter offered us her authority on the subject, and we took it, no questions asked. Two orders of "3 Tacos" with Pork Goghee and added Kimchee, sweet and spicy pickled napa cabbage, and a side order of Goghee Kimchee Fries. Our order safely in tow and our curiosity only partially sated, we drove off. The promising little stand with bright green awnings receded in the rearview mirror. The whole way home was spent pondering just how our little culinary adventure would turn out. Best case-scenario: a delicious surprise. Worst case-scenario: we'd both be calling in sick to work the next day.

We got home and soon our feast was sprawled out before us on the table. The flavors of the tacos were magnificent. The pork was savory and sweet with a kick of spice. The kimchee added instant flavor, enhancing the pork and other condiments. Even though it was hard to put down, we couldn't forget the order of Goghee Kimchee Fries, which could have been a meal in itself. French fries smothered in spicy pork and kimchee covered in jack and cheddar cheeses, salsa rojo and creamy fresca. The combination of flavors made them just as delicious as their taco counterparts.

Having finished our feast, we rested -- full and content. We found something off the beaten path. Perhaps had we done our research we would have known in advance the rave reviews Goghee to Go has been receiving. Yet we both agreed that knowing in advance would have taken some of the fun out it, our happy accident.
