Hollerado's Hella Hot Sauce at SXSW

How has SXSW treat you guys so far?

Dean: It's definitely been great to be behind the toaster oven for the whole day. Really, I couldn't be happier!

You guys released a few video logs [Holleradoland] documenting your time touring around the world. Regarding your international eats, where were some places that stood out?

Dean: I'm a pretty big beef guy. South America has it nailed when it comes to beef. For like five or six bucks, you can get a really nice cut of meat. Their meat is probably the best I've ever had! China is really cool too. That country some of the best and worst food I've ever had. They don't waste anything! You're really eating everything. When you order a chicken, you are eating the entire chicken - neck, feet, everything.

In addition to your musical success, you guys founded your own Hollerado's Hot & Healthy Hot Sauce. It's available for purchase here at your party and performances around Austin. Tell us a little bit about it.

Dean: Well we really wanted to make the healthiest hot sauce on the market and, in actuality, it probably is. It's a low sodium sauce with cod liver oil, some Echinacea in there, lots of additives. Surprisingly, with all the health-conscious ingredients, we'd like to think we came out with some pretty delicious-tasting hot sauce.

After being on tour, what do you eat when you return home?

Dean: It's such a slippery slope. As much as I can, I try to eat on the healthy side. I'm also pretty seasonal when it comes to what I like to eat. During the winter, I usually like to stay in and cook as much as possible. When it's cold outside, all I want is stay in and slow-roast a big beef stew for like 5 hours & eat it for the next 2 months! But during the summer, I'm all about going out, eating pizza slices and drinking beer. If that defines my summer, I'm as happy as a clam.

If you were to put a food item to symbolize your music, what would it be?

Dean: Nachos. We'd like to think each band member's personality is a unique ingredient to the food. The band could also take over the duties of the cheese: sticking everybody together to party and enjoy what they got themselves into.
